Fixing my blog

At last, I've done some changes in my blog - adding my picture and description. I'm doing things slowly - due to lack of time - but I'm soon going to get the hang of it. After all, I'm a beginner. I still don't understand the reason for blogging as a diary form - but I do want to get to know this trend by working on it.
It's 4 am, I got to force myself to sleep. Tuwa will be awake early this morning...

Taking it easy with the ultimate dream

I haven't written a word since a week ago. I have written different versions of chapter one - and each version tells actually a different story! Darn, writing a novel is so hard! I can't make up my mind, there are so many plots, but I don't know how to end them!

So I'm changing tactics. I'm taking it easy.
I'm a culture editor at a local newspaper, so I'll focus on reading as much as I can. I'll feed my brains with works of others - learn from others. At the same time as this tactic will teach me how to gather my thoughts better and write them, this will also improve my work as an editor.

At 39, I have a stable job that I love. But there should always be room for learning and improvement. Otherwise, life's a bore.

I got the job as a culture editor because I asked for it. I remembered talking to our general manager in the beginning of 2008 and telling him that I am eager and ready for the position. A year later, I became the first official culture editor of Sigtunabygden.
But the excitement shouldn't end there - when I got the job I wanted.
I want to learn more, be more cultivated, experiment with the contents and lay-out.

I am looking forward to 2010.

Packages from the Philippines

Yup, two packages from the Philippines! I was at work when Marcus sent me a text message, informing that the packages have arrived at the post office.
The packages came to Sweden on the 23rd of December, but letter informing us that they have arrived came only today. Wonderful gifts! Many of them made me laugh - like the rabbit earmuffs, the sando/linne/vest with wings and the emerald party dress. All the dresses and clothes were beautiful! The sizes were slightly big, but Tuwa will definitely wear them in 2010. The books were great!
I love all the presents!
Marcus and I got some presents, too. ;-)
Thanks wonderful family from Pinas!

Actually, I don't want my family to spend so much money sending gifts to us.
But then again, I get really excited whenever I receive parcels from home. I feel like a seven-year-old kid on Christmas day. I choose the age seven, because I remember that as the best christmas of my young life ever - when there were gifts aplenty!
In the picture, Tuwa is wearing her new silver shoes and a bobble hat. The hat is actually for me, a gift from Tatit from Singapore, but Tuwa likes it. So I guess now it's hers. She's been wearing it every time we go out since the day we got it.

Dreaming again

I've been scanning through my diaries from 2006, 2007 och 2009. Funny how I longed for some things, and found them coming true, just when I wanted them most.

For instance, in 2006, I wanted a permanent job. And I got it through Sigtunabygden.
In 2007, having a career wasn't enough. I wanted my own family. That same year, I became pregnant by accident and got married. That was almost an impossibility considering that Marcus and I broke up and he had definitely no intention of taking me back.
I remember asking God to give me happiness, and He gave me Tuwa.

In 2008 - although I didn't read it anywhere, I simply remember it - I wanted to have peace of mind. I wanted a clean slate. And that year, God helped my family through a big crisis. We - Tuwa, Marcus, and I - made it with flying colors. There were threats to Tuwa's mental and physical health. But we made it. And Tuwa's even so much smarter and stronger than what was expected of her. Her pediatrician - both in Sweden and the Philippines (Tita Doc) even commented that she was advanced for her age.

In 2009, I was ready to come back to work after a yearlong maternity leave. I wanted to be Sigtunabygdens culture editor, and I got the post. The first official culture editor of the newspaper. I get to interview artists, authors, etc - both big and small - and I love it! Although I get a little envious sometimes. For I also want to be an author.

And I think that that what ails my heart nowadays - the longing to be an author. I want to write a bestseller. And I want to write that bestseller 2010. Will I finish it then? And will it be a bestseller? Only God can give me the desires of my heart.

But what kind of book will it be? All I know is that it has to have a meaning. And after watching Avatar, I get inspired. The book has to have a message. The main character has to have principles. The book ought to inspire. Or to inform.

I wish.

When I came to Sweden, many people discouraged me. They said it would be difficult for a foreigner like me to become a journalist in this country. But I made it in a few years. I went to one of the best journalism schools in the country, I got a job as a reporter for the prestigious Swedish broadcasting company. Although I didn't get a permanent job there, I was blessed to find a permanent job elsewhere - at Sigtunabygden. I will remember this chapter in my life to encourage me to dream on.

I have become a journalist, just as I wanted. Now I want to be an author. An author of a bestseller. So help me God.

Not meant to blog

One thing I realised - I am not the blogging type. I have twitter, facebook and this blog, and I can't update any of them every day!

I feel for giving up twitter. I'll keep faceboook due to old friends and family.
This blog I will keep for the sake of documentation.

Anyway. went to Uppsala city today. It took me 1 hour and 30 minutes by train. It was an easy trip though.
Uppsala is nice small city. I can imagine myself moving there. I like the fact that is a student city, sort of reminds me of University of the Philippines in Los Baños, but with modern and huge department stores.

Freedom Writers and Triumph of the Will

We watched the film The Freedom Writers Diary with Hilary Swank. Interesting. Based on a true story. About racial conflicts in an american high school. Recommendable.

We watched Triumph of the will, a a nazi propaganda film from the 1930`s. Such long sequences on soldiers marching, and how town avenues, roads and town squares were thick with crowds, watching the german soldiers and Hitler. The film was made before Germany plunged inte second world war. Interesting. But boring in the long run. But for the sake of knowledge, the film is rather recommendable - how propaganda was used to move a whole nation to hate the Jews and start the holocaust.

Stop singing ma

Tuwa loves to sing. She adds melodies to words, melodies with simple lyrics, such as mamma, pappa, dede. If Marcus or I start singing, she can't resist following. Her favorite songs: Twinkle twinkle little star, Imbsy bimsy spindel, Mamma Mia, Lilla Snigel, Ooa hela natten, Små grodorna. Old favorites are Fly fly fly the butterfly and Tong tong pakitongkitong.

Princess Tuwa

Tuwa got a red bathrobe from Ate Be. It used to be her favorite. She would say "Jesus" when it was time to get up from her little bathtub and wrap herself with the bathrobe.
Now her favorite is the princess bathrobe we bought at City Gross in Bromma. We bought a knight version for her good old buddy Philip. Not that we would like to categorize them according girl/princess and boy/knight. It just so happened that my favorite color, purple, had a princess design.
Now here's princess Tuwa!

Financial crisis hits favorite restaurants

We were at a japanese restaurant för dinner.
At japanese restaurants, Marcus always orders sushi, and I Yakiniku (bite-sized meat). I actually miss other japanese dishes like Sukiyaki (Japanese hot pot), Teppanyaki (grilled/fried on iron plate) and Tonkatsu (breaded, deep-fried pork cutlets with a thick brown sauce).
When I was pregnant, I was actually craving - among other things - these japanese dishes, but I never found good ones in Sweden. There's good Teppanyaki at a spa hotel called Yasuragi in Nacka, but it's a bit far. We were there a few years back, but can't go back yet, not while Tuwa is small. Small kids aren't allowed there.
I wonder when I will ever get to taste good japanese dishes. Where will I find such a place in Stockholm?
Since the financial crisis of 2007-2009, I also noticed that some restaurants are serving smaller portions on simpler plates. Many of my favorite dishes do not taste as good anymore. Somehow, the chefs are saving on spices.
I used to like Hong Thai, a thai restaurant in Solna, at the corner of Framnäsbacken, the street where I used to live in my studio apartment. Their Pad thai (or phat thai, stir-fried rice noodles) used to be fantastic! Now it's mediocre. I'm not eating there again.
Anyway...Tuwa is not into Japanese dish yet. She doesn't like yakiniku and sushi. (We didn't give her raw fish, by the way. Of course!)

Good morning

In the weekends, I wake up quite late, around 8 am. Little Tuwa wakes us up by calling out the roll call the minute she wakes up: - Mama? Papa?
We answer lazily.
Then she checks out Papa first by crawling to him. Then she brushes his hair gently with her hands.
- Thanks, Tuwa, papa usually says.
She smiles and crawls towards me. She touches me gently on the head, too, and then kisses me on the lips or the cheeks. She lingers on by hugging me or rolling on me.
I am blessed to have weekend mornings like this!

The first blog

The first blog ever was said to be written by Justin Hall in 1994. Three years later, the word weblog was coined, and which is now better known as a blog. Now, after 15 years, I am finally catching up with the trend. I am part of the 2009 blog-statistic: being one of the 190 000 people in the world who start a blog per day.

The first time I heard of the existence of blogs was way back in 2005 when I worked as a reporter for Sveriges Radio, the Swedish broadcasting company. The radio program was called P4 Extra whose host then was famous TV-personality Rickard Olsson. The topic was blogging and mobbing. Or was it mobbing through blogging? For it seemed that some bloggers mob through their blogs.

Well, this won't be such a nasty blog. It's an ordinary "diary" about an ordinary family who's having such a swell time! This blog is named after my 1,5 year old daughter's favorite French cartoon characters, Barbafamiljen.
