In 2007, a swedish friend XX once said that he didn't like the Östermalm-area, and not even Solna, where I live. In Östermalm they all look so snobbish and have these expensive signature clothes. In Solna people look strict in their office/business attire. That was according to him. And I didn't see what he saw. In fact, I didn't understand what he was talking about. All I knew was that I didn't exactly like his nerdy taste for clothes. Once he wore a hawaaian shirt and yellow pants. I mean - he is a cute guy but his style bothered me. And sometimes embarrassed me, especially when he was with me in Solna. He is from the south of the south of Stockholm.
Yesterday I took a course at A4-skolan at Bondegatan, south of Stockholm. After which, I took a walk and unintentionally ended up at Folkungatan. I stopped over at two coffesshops: Svart Kaffe (I liked their varm smörgås med mörkt bröd och chévre, pesto, soltorkade tomater och valnötter) and South of Folkungatan Café (I didn't like their chai latte - too bland for my taste). From where I sat by the window, I observed people. They sport a nerdy konstnärlig trend - just as my friend XX!
But here, they didn't look goofy and out-of-taste - probably because almost everybody has the same taste and they have this confident attitude that seemed to say: "I don't care what you think, I am what I am.".
And people seem to be thespians having a costume rehearsal. I mean, I saw people sporting 1950's style - complete with Grease-lightning hair. And then there was this young beautiful couple who reminds me of the Twilight couple - vampire-looking!
I used to like my style - which makes me feel elegant. But my "elegance" didn't fit in Söder. I felt boring. Perhaps in this part of Stockholm, it is I who is nerdy instead.
