Stockholm pictures with Aunt, summer 2010

According to Wikipedia: Stockholm is known for its beauty, its buildings and architecture, its abundant clean and open water, and its many parks. It is sometimes referred to as Venice of the North.

The pictures in this post will show my walking route from Sveriges Radio, or Swedish Radio, to Kungsträdgården where I take the subway home. I love walking here in the summer. So it was fun when Radio Stockholm borrowed me from my permanent employer, Sigtunabygden.

We brought Tatit here to taste some Swedish food. I like the atmosphere here.

Segway. The first time I tried it was back in 2004, when it was being introduced to Sweden. I saw my first Segway in Radio Stockholm's terrace. I used to work for Radio Stockholm as a news reporter, and since the Segway PR-people were being interviewed, I also got curious and tried this two-wheeled electric vehicle. Now they are a usual sight in the summer.

behind Tatit is a small monument to Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish counterpart of Oscar Schindler. Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish humanitarian and diplomat who rescued tens of thousands of Jews (in Hungary) from the Holocaust by issuing passports and housing them in buildings established as Swedish territories.

Behind Tatit is the Dramaten,  or the Royal Dramatic Theatre, Sweden's national stage for drama, founded in 1788. Around 1000 shows are put on annually on its eight stages.

A visit to Sweden should always include a taste of their salmon.

Aunt at Stockholms stadshus and Steninge

Behind Tuwa is the city hall of Stockholm city, where the annual feast for Nobel prize winners is held.

It's one of the highlights when visiting Stockholm. Especially if you are a Nobel prize-wannabe. ;-)

The first time I came to Sweden, I was amazed that this river in the heart of Stockholm is so clean that people actually fish here.

The only bad thing is that some jetskiers can cause accidents. People swim here too, you see.

Now this is just a little part of Steninge castle, situated in Sigtuna municipality, which our newspaper Sigtunabygden covers. Steninge castle was once owned by Axel von Fersen, the most handsome European during the time of France's beheaded queen, Marie Antoinette. And he was actually Marie Antoinette's lover.

Song: "Tuwa är här"

At Tuwa's pre-school

Where do you go to school?
"Montessori", Tuwa answers.
She's been going there mondays-fridays since she was a little over 1,5 years old.
It has its advantages and disadvantages to go to pre-school early. But whether we like it or not, she has to go "to work", too. Because mama and papa need to work.
But at Montessori, kids until the age of three have shorter days. They are open from 8am-4pm only, unlike public schools that are open from 6 or 7am up to 5 or 6pm.
And Marcus and I make sure now that we give Tuwa quality time when we are finally together.
Anyway, here are some stillshots.

Tuwa learns to polish silver. Practical!

Tuwa is good at puzzles and painting!

Tuwa's art. She likes painting, but not drawing. And she likes glueing things.

Photos: Kungsträdgården, Stockholm

I went to Kungsträdgården yesterday to interview a politician from Knivsta, who works in Stockholm as a boss at a bank. So we met around this area.

See the lady leaving an envelope in a post box?

This is the subway station at Kungsträdgården. It takes around ten minutes to ride the subway from Solna centrum where we live.

I used to walk here to get to Sveriges Radio, the Swedish broadcasting company, where I worked.

The subway escalator

The T stands for tunnelbana, or subway. Im France, they have M instead, för metro.

Here's how taxicabs look like in Stockholm. If you see a leaf, then the car is environment-friendly.

My bundle of joy lost all her cards when she tucked them under grandpa's white cabinet.
