Stockholm pictures with Aunt, summer 2010

According to Wikipedia: Stockholm is known for its beauty, its buildings and architecture, its abundant clean and open water, and its many parks. It is sometimes referred to as Venice of the North.

The pictures in this post will show my walking route from Sveriges Radio, or Swedish Radio, to Kungsträdgården where I take the subway home. I love walking here in the summer. So it was fun when Radio Stockholm borrowed me from my permanent employer, Sigtunabygden.

We brought Tatit here to taste some Swedish food. I like the atmosphere here.

Segway. The first time I tried it was back in 2004, when it was being introduced to Sweden. I saw my first Segway in Radio Stockholm's terrace. I used to work for Radio Stockholm as a news reporter, and since the Segway PR-people were being interviewed, I also got curious and tried this two-wheeled electric vehicle. Now they are a usual sight in the summer.

behind Tatit is a small monument to Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish counterpart of Oscar Schindler. Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish humanitarian and diplomat who rescued tens of thousands of Jews (in Hungary) from the Holocaust by issuing passports and housing them in buildings established as Swedish territories.

Behind Tatit is the Dramaten,  or the Royal Dramatic Theatre, Sweden's national stage for drama, founded in 1788. Around 1000 shows are put on annually on its eight stages.

A visit to Sweden should always include a taste of their salmon.
