Nope, not the actual island in Thailand famous for its full moon party and as a backpackers destination. But Koh Phangan the Thai restaurant in Uppsala. That was where Aina Liljefors' farewell dinner was held.
Aina, Sigtunabygden's debate editor, is retiring after over 20 years of dedication to her work at the local newspaper in the municipality of Sigtuna.
We had the dinner party last week, although not every one in the firm was able to attend. That evening, it didn't really feel as though Aina were leaving us. But just a few hours ago, I woke up startled a little before midnight. I realised that Aina has only two days left before she finally says goodbye. And it made me...sad.
Aina has been like an aunt to me. An intelligent, wise and kind-hearted aunt. She's always been there to give a good advice, to correct my grammar, to fill me with synonyms, and as a walking encyclopedia, she helps me remember facts (I think I mentioned before that she won the Swedish version of the tv-program Jeopardy twice). It's almost like googling, but with a personal touch.
And I don't think I'm the only one who is going to miss her.
Whenever I meet old folks here in our vicinity, they always ask about Aina. She is well-liked and well-known. She's an institution, always associated with Sigtunabygden.
As one of our former colleagues - Eva Schoultz - say, it's hard to think of Sigtunabygden without Aina Liljefors.
Anyway, here are pictures from the dinner party...

Aha! So you are mumintrollet, Lenita! And we were thinking of visiting muminlandet this summer...
Kram Fredrik
