I used to be a yoga girl back in 2005-2006. Before Tuwa came, I used to wake up every morning at 6 am, took a short jog (if it's a weekday) or a longer jog (if it's weekend), and then do yoga high on a hill, in a forest, by the lake or somethng like that. I often went to Jungfrudansen in Solna or in Drottningholm or Judarskogen.
But now I can't focus anymore. My mind is always elsewhere.
When I was in Oman, I used to go to the gym every day at Hotel Inter-Continental Muscat. I ran 15 minutes, cycled 15 minutes, worked with the muscles 15 minutes, before finally swimming for 15 minutes. Every friday and saturday night, I went out dancing with friends.
But now I hate sweating too much. And it's not fun to train when there aren't girlfriends that I can gossip or laugh with. Bernadeth Loyola, Evelyn Ray and Evelyn Laturner used to take turns in hanging around when I trained. They were very bad in swimming though. Heheh! But they were such good babblers. When they babbled, I forgot the time and the effort.
But just yesterday I found Zumba. Or Zumba found me. A certain Fredrick Engman, a boyfriend to a Zumba-instructor, asked me to drop by and check out his girlfriend Marlene as she leads Zumba. He called me several times. Wrote to me several times, too. So finally, I went for Marlene Björkdahl and Zumba.
While I was dancing La Vida Loca and Shakira's songs, merengue, belly dancing, etc. I just loved it! I love losing myself in the dance!
My friend Leslie Villaraza-Saulsbury also wrote to me via FB from USA. She has been doing Zumba twice a week for a year now. And loves it!
What I love about Zumba so far?
1. I don't have to go to the disco to be able to dance with people. I skip extremely loud loudspeakers, drinking, staying up late at night.
2. There is no goal for perfection here. It's just to dance and have fun!
3. The music is fun! Yup, the fun factor is very high - it's hardly like going to a gym. I find gyms so boring nowadays.

So now, I am going for zumba! Once a week, after my long work at the office, I will zoom to Forum in Märsta and dance Zumba with Marlene and 20 others!
Perhaps I can even have tuesday evenings for zumba in Solna, where I live.

Here's some short clips with Marlene:
I think Zumba is great for people like me who love dancing and music and just having fun! With Zumba, I don't need to go out friday or saturday nights to go the disco. After all, I don't feel for discos anymore. Since I became a mom, I like to just stay home and take it easy after Tuwa sleeps. I don't like smoke and extremely loud music, and coming home very late and sweaty. Nope, not that for me anymore. I am done with my disco days. But I still love to dance. And Zumba is a way.
Anyway, Marlene Björkdahl and Fredrik Engman used to be linedancing world champions back in 1993.
